Matzen Financial offers a range of Financial Planning Services tailored to meet any individual need. The following descriptions are of our services that cover a broad spectrum of clients. Please read the details and contact us with any questions you may have. We are very open and up-front about everything involved, including costs. If you do not see the type of help you are looking for here, contact us to discuss the creation of a service designed just for you.


Specific Needs Service

This service is set up to address specific planning issues, such as Asset Allocation. This is not a detailed financial plan. We can help clients decide what is important to them on a specific issue and then provide guidance as to how to go about achieving those goals. Potential topics that clients may want to use this service for are:

Asset Allocation, Risk Tolerance, Educational Funding, Retirement Planning, 401(k) issues, etc...

Services Included:

  • Starter Phone Interview - A beginning discussion so that we can understand the topic and what areas are concerning the client.
  • Meeting - A face to face session that allows for a dialogue that includes highlighting the real issues of the topic at hand and the advantages and disadvantages of potential solutions.
  • Follow-Up - We will provide the client with our written recommendations. Phone support will be available for up to one month following the meeting.

Fees for the Specific Needs Service: $500
The cost is a one time fee, due at the Meeting. A Client Services Contract will be signed. Multiple Needs can be combined for a discount.


Starter Financial Planning Service

This is basically a "How to Get Started" Plan for Financial Planning. We will help you get started with all basic areas of Financial Planning and make sure you understand what kind of work will be required going forward. This is an excellent service for disciplined individuals/families that just need a financial planning road map.

Services Included:

  • Initial Interview - This is where current status, goals and risk tolerance are discussed. We will get an understanding for the client's areas of concern and usually request that additional information be provided, including filling out a questionnaire. This is a face to face meeting and can last a few hours.
  • Plan Creation - When all relevant information has been provided, we will create a detailed Financial Plan. This will include Investment, Retirement and Estate Planning as well as Insurance, Tax and Education Funding.
  • Plan Delivery - This will be a second meeting where the Financial Plan is delivered and its implementation is discussed. It is imperative that the client understand all recommendations and a step-by-step plan will be included on how to use this information.
  • Follow-Up Support - For a period of three months following delivery, clients will be able to support and guidance in implementing their plan. We will be happy to answer questions and help with any issues regarding the plan.

Fees for the Starter Financial Plan*: $750 to $1500
The cost is a one time fee, with 50% due at the initial interview. Also, at the outset of the initial interview, the planning relationship will be discussed and any/all questions will be answered and a planning contract will be signed by both parties. If clients wish to upgrade to the Comprehensive Financial Planning Service, cost of the Starter Plan will be netted against any additional fees.


Comprehensive Financial Planning Service

This is a complete, ongoing premium service. All areas of Financial Planning will be addressed. We work together with the client to create a complete list of goals and values. Then a detailed Financial Plan is created and delivered. Following on that, we will assist the client in implementing the plan. We will stay in contact with the client and constantly monitor the plan for needed revisions or changes. Annual reviews will take place.

Services Included:

Topics: Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statements, Budgets, Goals, Funding, Risk Tolerance, Investments, Retirement planning, Estate planning, Insurance review, Tax planning

  • Plan Implementation - We will work together with the client in getting the plan in place. Quite often there are a lot of details to take care of and it is important that nothing is overlooked.
  • Plan Review - At any time, situations can change and we will help clients adapt their plans to re-align with current goals.
  • Support - Ongoing assistance dealing with all things involved in the Financial Planning process. In addition, assistance can be provided on other topics such as Educational Funding or Major Purchases.

Annual Fees for the Comprehensive Financial Planning Service*: 0.50-1.25% of Assets under Management
Fees are paid semi-annually in advance. A Client Services Contract will be signed. There is currently a $1,500 minimum annual fee.

*If, during the financial planning process, the services of an outside professional are required, we will assist you in finding the appropriate professional. Any costs associated with these services will be the responsibility of the client and between the client and the outside professional. (For example, a lawyer who prepares a last will and testament.)
